BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT AIRBUS A320 FAMILY
The Airbus A320 family consists of short- to medium-range, narrow-body, commercial passenger twin-engine jet airliners by Airbus. The family includes the A318, A319, A320 and A321.
The first member of the A320 family (A320) was launched in March 1984, first flew on February 22, 1987, and was first delivered in March 1988 to launch customer Air France. The family was extended to include the A321 (1994), the A319 (1996), and the A318 (2003).
In December 2010, Airbus announced a new generation of the A320 family, the A320neo (new engine option). The A320neo offers new, more efficient engines, combined with airframe improvements and the addition of winglets. The original family is renamed A320ceo (current engine option). A320neo made its first flight on September 25, 2014, and it was introduced by Lufthansa on January 25, 2016.
The worst accident to A320 family aircraft happened on October 31, 2015, when Metrojet Flight 9268 was destroyed by a bomb above the northern Sinai following its departure from Sharm El Sheikh International Airport, Egypt, en route to Pulkovo Airport, Saint Petersburg, Russia. The flight was operated by Russian airline Kogalymavia (branded as Metrojet) with an Airbus A321. All 224 people on board were killed. The cause of the crash was most likely an onboard explosive device.
