BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT AIRBUS A330/A340
The Airbus A330 is a medium- to long-range wide-body twin-engine jet airliner. The A330 was developed in parallel with the four-engine A340, which shared many common airframe components, but differed in number of engines.
In June 1987 Airbus launched the A330 and A340. The A330-300, the first variant, took its maiden flight in November 1992, and entered passenger service with Air Inter in January 1994. Airbus followed up with the slightly shorter A330-200 variant in 1998.
The A330neo (new engine option) is a development from the initial A330. A330neo made its first flight on 19 October 2017, and was first delivered to TAP Air Portugal on 26 November 2017.
The worst accident to A330 happened on June 1, 2009, when Air France Flight 447 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, killing all 228 passengers and crew on board. The aircraft was en route from Rio de Janeiro-Galećo International Airport, Brazil to Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport, France.
The Airbus A340 is a long-range, four-engine, wide-body jet airliner. The A340 was developed in parallel with the twin-engine A330, which shared many common airframe components, but differed in number of engines.
The first flight of the A340 occurred on 21 October 1991. The first A340-200 was delivered to Lufthansa on 2 February 1993, and the first A340-300 was delivered to Air France on 26 February 1993.
