BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT DOUGLAS DC-6
The Douglas DC-6 is a piston-powered airliner and transport aircraft built from 1946 to 1958. The Douglas DC-6 was one of the first airplanes to fly a regularly scheduled around-the-world route, and went on to become Douglas' most successful four engined piston airliner. With its higher performance, increased accommodation, greater payload and pressurized cabin, it was a natural evolution of the DC-4. The DC-6 first flew on June 29, 1946. The first airline deliveries were to American Airlines and United Airlines on November 24, 1946.
The larger, all-cargo DC-6A first flew September 29, 1949. The larger capacity DC-6B first flew February 10, 1951.
The worst accident to Douglas DC-6 happened on December 8, 1969, when Olympic Airways Flight 954 crashed into a mountain near Keratea, Greece, killing all 90 people on board.
