BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT DC-8
The Douglas/McDonnell Douglas DC-8 is a four-engine mid- to long-range narrow-body jet airliner built from 1958 to 1972. Powered by four jet turbine engines, the DC-8 was capable of speeds of more than 600 mph (966 km/h). The DC-8 was the first Douglas jet-powered transport. and it flew for the first time on 30 May, 1958. On September 18, 1959, the DC-8 entered service with Delta Air Lines and United Airlines.
The worst accident to DC-8 happened on July 11, 1991, when Nigeria Airways Flight 2120 caught fire shortly after takeoff from King Abdulaziz International Airport, Saudi Arabia, and crashed while attempting to return for an emergency landing, killing all 261 people on board. The aircraft involved in the accident was a DC-8-61, operated by Nationair for Nigeria Airways.
