BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT FOKKER 100
The Fokker 100 is a medium-sized, twin-turbofan jet airliner. It is Fokker's largest aircraft, and based on the F-28 Fellowship, but stretched and thoroughly modernised. The Fokker 100 was offered in a number of versions. The Fokker 100 is based on the basic F-28 airframe, with the most important and obvious change being the stretched fuselage.
On November 30, 1986, the first prototype of Fokker 100 flew for the first time. In February 1988 the first deliveries started to Swissair. Major customers included American Airlines with 75 orders, TAM Transportes Aéreos Regionais with 50 orders and USAir with 40 orders. Although the Fokker 100 was successful, Fokker accumulated losses for several years, contributing to its collapse in 1996. Fokker 100 production stopped in early 1997.
The worst accident to Fokker 100 happened on October 31, 1996, when TAM Transportes Aéreos Regionais Flight 402 crashed shortly after takeoff from São Paulo-Congonhas Airport in Brazil. All 95 people on board, and another 4 people on the ground were killed.
