BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT LOCKHEED C-141 STARLIFTER

The Lockheed C-141 Starlifter is a military strategic airlifter. The C-141 introduced to replace slower propeller driven cargo planes. The aircraft remained in service for over 40 years, until the United States Air Force withdrew the last C-141s from service in 2006. The C-141 was the first pure jet designed for cargo.

The prototype was rolled out on August 22, 1963, and first flew on December 17, 1963. The first delivery to an operational unit was made on April 23, 1965.

The worst accident to Lockheed C-141 Starlifter happened on August 28, 1973, when United States Air Force operated C-141 crashed in mountains near Madrid-Torrejón Air Force Base in Spain. Of the 25 people on board, 24 were killed.
